Life in the Neighbourhood Recreated

Children no doubt enjoy free play and exploration time. But sometimes little intervention and playfulness from us can make a whole lot of difference. These are regular shaped blocks but the guidance of 'how to play' has led to a very interesting, exciting and fulfilling set of experiences for children and adults together.

. Layout the blocks like your own neighbourhood area. Go and walk around your neighbourhood, take notes if required. Notice the shape of the buildings. Believe me leads to lot of discussions, associations, everyday pattern of life and the best of all - lots of giggles.

. Add characters - policeman, garbage women, shopkeeper, zoo, driver, school, shops and yourselves ofcourse.

.Now the interesting one. Put off the light. Take a small torch and play with lights and shadows. Discuss directions North, South, East - rising sun, West - setting sun.

. Give a camera and let children take street views. Not the most accurate you will get but children enjoy it.

. Excellent story telling sessions can be carried out similarly.
